Tired of the "drama"

Are you tired of watching Reality shows and Talent search? Well, don't be (what?!!!), because they are ubiquitous and unavoidable in Philippine TV. Since the advent of these shows in our TV, they've become unstoppable. More and more TV franchise is serving to us by the three major networks. These shows cater to all emotions --- happy, sad, angry, confused, excitement, etc. --- and genres --- drama, thriller, and comedy. These shows are good in manipulating our desires and emotions in a very good presentation. I am afraid that we become self-obsessed and narcissist society if we keep consumes these shows. I am not exaggerating. If you research this realty TV phenomenon, you will know the truth and probably you may agree with me (I’m not begging for it). One study I have read from Business World (9/18/11) stating:
that girls who regularly watch reality television expect --- and accept --- more bullying and drama in their lives, a just released study in the United States suggested. They also assign more value to physical appearances, and view themselves as leaders and role models, according to the nationwide survey by the research wing of the Girl Scouts of the United States. -source

OK, before it gets worse, here are some Pinoy Reality and Talent Search that we see on TV.

Pinoy Big Brother

Group of people....have them 24/7 surveillance...and you get entertainment. The concept of the show was taken from George Orwell's famous 1984 novel. This show got  consistent ratings from its first season up to the third. They (the team behind it) use different gimmicks to get the attention of the viewers. And it is effective --- the Filipinos love it, ratings are high, and the rest is history. Kuya's house will open on October 29. 2011...this is the Pinoy Big Brother: Unlimited (S4)....so expect another drama.

Pilipinas Got Talent

This show gives hope for those who are talented and ready to be exploited. If you are good observer, you will notice the same pattern of "drama" that embedded on the show (just like the other shows). A dreamer, came from poor background, join the contest and BOOm!!!!

Showtime

Vice Ganda as the front judge of this show....expect happiness. But when you repeatedly watch it every single day, you get nothing. I do not mean to be mean here, but c'mon! Enough with this stupidity and get real!!!

X Factor Philippines

Oh C'mon!!! again??!! Who will be the "Simon Cowell" of the Philippines???

Survivor Philippines

When I first saw this show, somehow I got entertained. Because of their "survival skills", fight scenes, and steamy scenes (ehehe). But at the end of the day I realize they were just a bunch of crap trap in an island.

Protege

This show just follow what's the trend in today's show format. So there is no need to explain it further.

Talentadong Pinoy

In fairness with this show, the judges give justifiable comments to the contestant for their improvement. But in its current season (Season 4), it is getting O.A. (over acting) and I think they are emulating the style of Showtime.

I do not include the other shows that we regularly see on TV. I only get headache whenever I analyze this shows. It is the same formula, same tactics, same gimmicks. If you watch these shows, try to observe them and exercise you critical thinking skills.
Enjoy!!!

  9. As viewers we should analyze the shows that the three networks serve to us. I read some of this type of criticism in antipinoy.com. I understand the point of Yadu Karu. Most of the shows that we see on tv are senseless, full of violence and sexual imagery. With all the hidden or subliminal messages directly point to our subconscious minds. It is very alarming if a child sees thESE kind of shows.

    keep it up Yadu!!!
