The controversial video called 'The Innocence of Muslims' enraged many Muslims throughout the world. The video is about mocking and insulting the prophet Muhammad (s.a.a.w.) as womanizer, homosexual and child abuser. This 13 minute low budget video uploaded in Youtube become viral, but unlike other viral videos we have seen, this one cause commotion.
"Sam Bacile", the creator of the video has an unknown identity. He is now "hiding" somewhere because of this incident. According to reports, his real name is Nakoula Bassely Nokoula. Many thought that he was a Jew but later reports claim that he is an Egyptian-born Coptic Christian who lives in L.A. He is a convicted fraudster and an alleged meth cooker. According to reports, the video was made through the funds from "Jewish donors". He characterized it as a political effort to call attention to the hypocrisies of Islam. According to him "Islam is a cancer". "That the movie is a political movie and not religious movie."(1)
Bacile misled the cast; they believed that they were filming 'Dessert Warriors'. When they saw the video posted in Youtube, they were shocked (as if they care). Most of the scenes were overdubbed to insult Islam.
This kind of controversy is not new to us. In September 30, 2005 a Danish newspaper called Jyllands-Posten also mocks the prophet. And the infamous Satanic Verses, a novel written by Salman Rushdie did the same approach.
In my opinion, it is staged, a product of propaganda. I don't mean to be "conspiracy freak" here but c'mon. The same (violent or peaceful) reaction you will get if you insult Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism or any other religion in this world. The word RESPECT is missing in this scenario. Bacile is a frustrated director gone mad. Whether he is existing or "manufactured by unseen men", his video is capable of initiating chaos. I am expecting more of this kind will appear in the near future. Whether to insult Islam or any other religion, one thing is for sure. It is effective.
Here is the video.
Here is an interesting video from TheYoungTurks.
