GenSan will host the 1st Mindanao Youth Congress

The Working Youth Club of Alabel in partnership with the Mindanao Youth Council and Mindanao Educators Alliance Network (MEAN) will conduct the 1st Mindanao Youth Congress, with its theme – “Kabataang Mindanao, Nagkakaisang Agenda,” this coming June 26-27, 2015 at Sarangani Highlands, Upper Tambler General Santos City. Students, youth leaders and young professionals from different regions in Mindanao will attend the said event.

“The activity aims to foster active participation towards understanding different issues involving the youth sector,” says Johnrell Revilla, the Executive Director of Working Youth Club of Alabel. “It helps educate the young individuals which would eventually help them make the right actions for the current issues.”

The event will discuss about the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Climate Change Adaptation, Student Rights and Welfare, and Governance in Local Democracy. The 1st Mindanao Youth Congress is supported and endorsed by the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Interior and Local Governance (DILG) and National Youth Commission (NYC).

“I hope this event will have a positive impact to the youth in Mindanao,” says Johnrell. “I hope it will make them informed and empowered in order for them to be the catalyst of change.”
