Book Swap Party conducts in GenSan

SOX Reading Advocates and Valoræx organized the first Book Swap Party in General Santos City last July 14, 2017. The said activity was participated by book lovers in GenSan and neighboring towns. It aims to promote the love of reading and its contribution in literacy of the region.

“The event was really good. It enabled us to meet new friends and brought old friends together again. The power of books to bring people together was brought to a whole new level. Although we have different tastes and preference, it was not limited to author-character-reader set up. A sphere of bookworms finally took its first of many steps,” said Kurt Comendador, the co-founder of GenSan Book Enthusiasts and Traders.

“The event is the first ever book swap party that is done here in GenSan,” said Rossel Audencial, English Instructor from Mindanao State University-GenSan and Founder of Valoræx. “Even with the few people who came, it still shows that there are book lovers and readers within the city who are waiting for the opportunity to share the books they have to other. It will be a start up event to promote and expand the love for reading with students and professionals. It is inspiring to think that there are now avenues for readers to meet and greet and swap their books. Personally, I feel that I found a sense of belongingness as I establish connections with other people who also read the books that I read.”

This event is only the start of many activities that the reader’s group will organize. The next leg of the Book Swap Party will be at Koronadal City.

SOX Reading Advocates is a loose advocacy group that aims to foster the love of reading amongst the children and adults in the region and is composed of volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life.

Valoræx is the Book Readers' Club from Mindanao State University-GenSan.
