Vandreudstilling: The Traveling Art Exhibit launches in GenSan

KANDAPADA artists in partnership with some Danish artists launched the Travelling Art Exhibition (Vandreudstilling) last June 16-17, 2017 at Hotel San Marco in General Santos City. The art exhibit showcased KANDAPADA artists from the region and Danish as well as other European artists which are based in Denmark. The Art Exhibition aims to promote contemporary art in SOCCSKSARGEN (SOX) and to help the local art scene going. The proceeds of this exhibition will help fund the upcoming events and projects of KANDAPADA.

“The traveling exhibit is all over the region. We´ll tap this project for future events and festivals. It just happened that the launching of it is in Gensan. Thanks to the great effort of Mark Ty and KANDAPADA artists,” said Bong Delfin, one of the organizers of the exhibit and who now based in Denmark.

“This project was realized a few years ago after I was awarded as “Artist of the Year” in an International Art Festival in Denmark. The Danish art scene gave me the inspiration to start painting. My self-taught talent was given recognition because of hard work and dedication to improve my craft. And because of that, I realized that our younger artists should witness and experience what I saw (here in Denmark) that inspired me to hone my craft,” said Bong.

In my 30 years of living in SOX, I hardly remember when was the last time or if I have ever been into an art gallery in our region,” Bong added.

The lack of art spaces in the region motivates the group of Mark and Bong to initiate activities that could help uplift the local art scene.

“It is a collaborative effort with the KANDAPADA (thru Mark) and my Dream Weaver Project to promote contemporary art in our region. Because of our economic situation and geographical location, SOX’s art scene was left out. It is our vision to educate the community about art and help local artists to showcase their talents not just in our region but also internationally. Through the Dream Weaver Project, we will bring some local talents to Europe later this year,” said Bong.

The next leg of the Traveling Exhibit will be in Koronadal City.

KANDAPADA is a group of visual artists from Region 12. The group’s name was derived from a Maguindanaon word which means collaboration. Their goal is to convene various artists from SOX region. KANDAPADA wants to help budding young artists through exchanging of ideas and collaboration.
