Mary Ann Ordinario and Xi Zuq launch their new children’s books in GenSan

In line with the celebration of the National Reading Month, the SOX Reading Advocates organized the book launching and signing of MJ Tumamac (Xi Zuq) and Mary Ann Ordinario at SM City GenSan. Various groups like the NGO sector, book clubs, writers’ associations, youth groups, teachers, and children participate in the said event.

Mary Ann runs ABC Educational Development Center, a school cum publishing house in Kidapawan City. Many of her books have been recognized nationally and internationally. Recently, her picture book – The Opposite Jars, Posi and Nega, is named Best Short Story for Children at the 39th Catholic Mass Media Awards. Xi Zuq, on the other hand, is a writer for children and reading advocate. He divides his time among General Santos, Maitum, Lake Sebu and Quezon City. His latest book – Operation Taka, is the last installment of the Supremo chapter-book trilogy published by Adarna Publishing

As advocates of literacy and literature in the region, the SOX Reading Advocates support the Department of Education’s objectives of promoting Every Child A Reader Program and the overall goal of developing the love for reading among learners. The National Reading Month, which is listed in the Department of Education’s official 2017-2018 calendar, is based on Memorandum 244 s.2011. It culminates on November 27, National Reading Day, through Republic Act 10556. Activities mounted by DepEd and non-government organizations include read-a-thons, storytelling, reading camps, book-making contests, and the like.

The book launch is one of the activities this year and they will continue to organize reading-related events in 2018.

SOX Reading Advocates is a loose advocacy group that aims to foster the love of reading amongst the children and adults in the region and is composed of volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life.
