SM GenSan showcases artworks of 8 artists in SOX’s “My City, My SM, My Art”

My City, My SM, My Art

In time for the arts month celebration, SM City General Santos is launching My City, My SM, My Art. It is a joint project of SM, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, the Shell Companies of the Philippines, and the Philippine Star, with support from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and Centerstage Productions. My City, My SM, My Art is a celebration of Philippine visual arts - painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and filmmaking. The grand launching of it will be on February 5, 2018, Monday, 4 PM, at SM Event Center. The exhibit runs until February 9.

Eight talented and passionate artists from Region 12 (SOX) will be featured. They are Leeroy New, Teng Mangansakan, Leonardo Rey “Bing” Cariño, Marthin Millado and Ronald Tamfalan. Three young artists also will be featured in the exhibit, namely - Mark Ty, John Michael Acol and Tito Hare Santillana. These artists made a mark in their respected fields and continue to inspire emerging artists not only in the region but also in the country.

My City, My SM, My Art will also showcase the region’s tapestry of traditional indigenous arts, eco-friendly community crafts, and world-class designs by modern artisans.

A larger segment of the general public is becoming witness to the efforts of SOX Region artists and private organizations to bring art more closely to the community. Public events and exhibits staged in places of convergence continue to make art concepts more tangible and accessible.

The campaign brings art and people together by showcasing the works of masters, modernists, and millennials in a roadshow around the SM Supermalls. Advocating art for all, SM is working with communities to mount exhibits, workshops, and contests in key cities around the Philippines.
