Ilocano storytelling conducts in Maitum

SOX Reading Advocates, in partnership with Sarangani Writers League, conducted a storytelling activity on October 12, 2018 at Wali Integrated School, Barangay Wali, Maitum, Sarangani Province.

More than fifty Grade 3 and Grade 4 students listened to Ti Dakkel nga Armang and other stories told by Hannah Charis Barabat, Janel Kaye Ubando, Rugine Collamar, Justin Mae Nilo, and Fhilep Jose Arisgado. The storytellers are products of the intensive storytelling training organized by Save the Children and Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges' The Storybook Project in Maitum earlier this year.

The activity is the third leg of Agistoryatayo!, a series of book-giving and storytelling sessions for Ilocano schoolchildren in SOCCSKSARGEN. The first leg was at Kilagasan Elementary School, Kabacan, Cotabato Province, and the second at Midtapok Elementary School, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat. The series aims to encourage the practice of telling stories to children and to contribute to the promotion of Ilocano as a language of literature.

The activity was made possible by the following: Wali Integrated School's teachers Maricel Reazonda, Floribel A. Ubando, Lejan L. Pableo, Precious Joy C. Rabara, and Marilou G. Cortez; student council members Michelle Alicna, Rea Fea Marquez, Searra Mea Salem, Maria Abelina CariƱo, Cristine Ranit, Jessa May Son, Richell Tuvera, Jessica Tarinay, Irene Hidalgo, Excel Garlet, Bryan Mongkil, Angelo Castro, Princess Jade Marquez, and Freda Jane Ariz; and Maitum-based writers XaƱa Angel Eve Apolinar, Jam Bautista, and Kenneth Michael Dalimbang.
