21st National Tuna Congress picks Theme: The Tuna Industry: Embracing Technologies and Sustainable Strategies

Exciting days are upcoming! In preparation for the 21st National Tuna Congress slated on September 4-6, 2019, the Executive Committee (EXECOM) has decided on this year’s Congress Theme: “The Tuna Industry: Embracing Technologies and Sustainable Strategies”, which fully acknowledges the rapid changes happening in the fishing industry brought about by technology. Technology indeed, is the forerunner of the future.

To be at pace with the current technological trend, the SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc. (SFFAII) has also integrated technology in its systems and processes. It has collaborated with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and USAID Oceans and Fisheries Partnership in the development and implementation of the Philippine Catch Documentation and Traceability System (eDCTS). With the implementation of the Philippine eCDTS, supply chains can claim greater value for their Tuna products while complying with national law; meeting international Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated fishing covenants and traceability market requirements; and proudly participating in effective co-management of fisheries.

With the chosen Theme, Congress EXECOM Co-Chairpersons Joaquin T. Lu, SFFAII outgoing President, and Andrew Philip Yu, SFFAII President-elect, are very confident that the Program and Resolutions Committee has pre-selected Congress Topics that will resonate with the technological innovations shaping both global and Philippines industries.

The 21st National Tuna Congress will be held at the 3rd Floor, SM Trade Halls, SM City General Santos, General Santos City.

The Tuna Industry, being one of the top industries in General Santos City, has continued to actively played a key role in the local, national, and international arenas to ensure that affordable fish is available to all Filipinos of all classes.

SFFAII will continue to lead the industry by embracing new technologies and sustainable strategies.
