CharitAble Maitum launches Project INAlalayan

In an effort to lessen cases of teenage pregnancies and repeat pregnancies among teenage mothers in the Municipality of Maitum, CharitAble Maitum (CM) launched Project INAlalayan in collaboration with Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF). The virtual launching was held on September 3, 2021, through their Facebook and Twitter pages.

“CM decided to have this project because of the alarming rate of teenage pregnancy in our municipality. CM also wants to have a long-term project that could help address youth-related problems and has a lasting impact on the community. With the help of Zuellig Family Foundation we came up with this project,” said Frank Jeay Montebon, the Project Head of CharitAble Maitum.

Project INAlalayan is a three-year maximum plan that seeks to create a supportive environment for adolescent parents enabling them to have a stable and soon enough, successful family. The project includes counseling, family planning, skills training, and livelihood aides for its partner-beneficiaries. They also help to alleviate the living conditions of young families in the municipality through the availability of family planning options. This project is an initiative undertaken through the technical assistance support of the Youth Leadership and Governance Program (YLGP).

Project INAlalayan also promotes proper family planning to those teenage parents that are project beneficiaries. It also encourages not to engage in premarital sex and should practice abstinence.

For their launch, CM chose one young couple from Barangay Mabay. The goal is to have at least one partner-beneficiary from each barangay in Maitum that will inspire other young adolescents in their own respective communities.

“I hope this project will become successful. We are hoping that this project can help the local government on lowering the cases of teenage pregnancy and those young families to adopt long-term family planning methods. I hope they will become empowered through this project.”

“Through this project, we also hope that it could strengthen the partnership among Sangguniang Kabataan, LGU Maitum, Barangay Councils, and NGOs,” he added.
