Three Champions Shine at the 2nd Lakeside Coffee Festival in Bukidnon
The aroma of victory filled the air at Lake Pinamaloy in Don Carlos, Bukidnon, as the second Lakeside Coffee Festival crowned three exceptional baristas in its signature competitions. Genesis Timogan, Rexxe Emperio, and CJ Boquiren emerged as champions, showcasing not only their technical prowess but also their resilience and passion for the craft.
Timogan of Malaybalay City clinched the Brewers Cup Champion title. Owner of St Rocks Coffee House, Timogan faced a moment of panic during the semi-final round, recalling a similar setback from the previous year. But instead of faltering, he leaned into his training and belief in his own growth.
“Letting go of fear was the turning point,” he shared. His journey reflects the quiet discipline and mental strength required in competitive brewing.
Boquiren, representing Davao City, was named Latte Art Champion. A barista at CafƩ Racer, Boquiren practiced daily whenever he had a chance, despite not knowing the competition mechanics or being familiar with the milk used. His win was a testament to adaptability and faith in his artistry.
"I just focused on the game and the signature pattern. I stayed relaxed during the competition," he said.
Emperio of Maramag, Bukidnon, took home the Golden Shot Espresso Cup Champion title. A representative from Sanlag Coffee, Emperio was a last-minute entrant, invited by the Bukidnon Coffee Tribe to represent the province.
“I arrived at the venue not knowing I was competing,” he said. “I just let my barista instincts take over.” Despite being underprepared, his raw talent and love for espresso carried him through.
These victories have ignited a deeper commitment among the winners to continue learning and competing.
The Lakeside Coffee Festival 2025, held from October 16–26, was a 10-day celebration of coffee, culture, and community. Organized by LGU Don Carlos and Bukidnon Coffee Tribe, the festival featured exciting competitions—Latte Art Throwdown (October 17), Golden Shot Espresso Cup presented by Sweeto Taiwan (October 18), and Brewers Cup (October 19)—alongside public cupping, pop-up cafĆ©s, local delicacies, and immersive workshops in roasting, brewing, mixology, branding, and the arts.
With its scenic lakeside setting and growing reputation, the festival continues to elevate Bukidnon’s coffee scene and empower local talent to shine on the national stage.
