DA Honors 37 Outstanding Agri-Fishery Achievers at 51st Gawad Saka
PASAY CITY — The Department of Agriculture (DA) honored 37 individuals, groups, and institutions for their contributions to Philippine agriculture and fisheries during the 51st Gawad Saka awards at the Philippine International Convention Center on June 29.
The national winners spanned seven categories: crops, livestock, fisheries, institutions, extension, youth, and cross-cutting initiatives. The awardees, including farmers, fisherfolk, and agripreneurs, received cash incentives and project grants to expand their enterprises.
Senator Francis N. Pangilinan, chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform, delivered the keynote address. He noted that the awardees demonstrated that agricultural success includes innovation, community solidarity, and sustainable livelihoods.
Established in 1970, Gawad Saka is the DA’s highest recognition program for the sector. Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. revived the search in 2024 following a temporary suspension during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The Gawad Saka is a testament to our renewed commitment to continuously honor your outstanding contributions," said Remelyn R. Recoter, director of the DA-Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) and co-vice chairperson of the national executive committee.
Roger V. Navarro, DA undersecretary for operations, agri-fisheries mechanization, and rural credit, expressed confidence that the awardees would continue to inspire rural progress. He urged them to help build a competitive and sustainable agriculture sector that uplifts the lives of food producers.
