This site has evolved from a personal blog to an advocacy-related site. I interviewed various advocates and featured advocacy-related news and stories in region 12 and other parts of the country. I hope that the stories that I featured on this site will inspire you as readers.
I participate (along with PIO & MIOs Sarangani and other delagates of Region 12) in the 1st National Information Convention (NIC) at SMX Convention Centre, SM Lanang, Davao City. The three-day (February 19-21, 2018) event has a theme - " Spurring Development and Empowering Communities through Information."
The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) through the Philippine Information Agency, organized the National Information Convention 2018, which gather public and private sector communicators with the goal of realizing the following objectives:
— To encourage communicators to model effective and responsible sharing of information and use their platforms to provide information that will improve their audience’s quality of life
— To strengthen partnership between private and public-sector communicators, with the goal of nurturing a well-informed and enlightened citizenry
— To organize a movement of communicators that will empower communities by inspiring civic engagement towards nation building The convention has three main activities: 1) Plenary Sessions 2) Parallel Sessions 3) Exhibits
The Plenary Sessions focus on the essential role of communication and information in disseminating key government policies and projects while providing the frameworks of participatory governance and social mobilization. The themes of the Plenary Sessions are as follows:
- Communicating Government Policy
- Citizen Journalism - Crisis Communication
- Empowering Communities through Information
Topics under these Plenary Sessions discuss ways of harnessing the power of information in contributing to social development, the need for responsible and effective use of social media, and mechanisms for citizens' participation in good governance. The Parallel Sessions highlight various capacity building initiatives and current innovations and practices in participatory governance, media relations, development and grassroots communication, radio, and television broadcast, and print & publishing.
These will be spearheaded by the different Government media entities handled by the PCCO. The exhibits also showcase the PCCO's products and services.
On the last day of the event, the representatives from different regions in the country make a "Declaration of Commitment to Responsible Communication" with PCOO Sec. Martin Andanar.
