4th Hike for a Cause

The Tuklas Katutubo (TK) Malungon Chapter had a successful two-day 4th Hike for a Cause activity in Sitio Kanyugan, Barangay Tamban, Malungon, Sarangani Province, on December 17-18, 2021. Different organizations and volunteers participated the event and provided relevant technical assistance and gift-giving to the people of Sitio Kanyugan.

It was a three-hour motor trail from Barangay Poblacion to Sitio Danao in Barangay Tamban. From Sitio Danao, the team endured a six-hour trek to Sitio Kanyugan. The trail was not easy due to unpaved roads and the weather condition because of typhoon Odette. The community is inhabited with the Tagakaulo tribe and considered one of the far-flung sitios of Malungon.

Through the efforts of the TK volunteers and advocates, the group have conducted storytelling session, children storybook and school supplies distribution, spaghetti food party, farmers’ mentoring session, peer education, and gift-giving activity.

The event was in collaboration with the members of Agribusiness Management Society of MSU-GenSan, Sarangani Writers League, TeenPuyog, Sarangani Provincial Hospital-Malungon, with the support of BLGU Tamban, LGU Malungon, Sarangani Board Member Arman Guili, Wren Teo and Shermer Mante. The teachers of Kanyugan Elementary School, headed by Romnick Cantonao, help facilitated the activity.

The Hike for a Cause is an annual activity of TK Malungon. The previous hikes were conducted in Sitio Olong and Sitio Tandawanan in Barangay Upper Lumabat.
